Find out why I stopped using kale in my green smoothies 28 May 2015

My rule with green smoothies - throw whatever you feel like in a blender. Everyone likes them slightly different. Don't be too pedantic with following a recipe, just see what happens. It's actually pretty hard to make something that tastes really bad. Unless you put rocket (arugula) in it - learnt that one the hard way, I think we had a mixed bag of leaves.. eugh :| bad idea!

Fun facts about kale. I used to put it in my smoothies but I don't anymore. Everything I've learnt is just a combo of info my doctor has told me + my own research (which I encourage other people to do too). Copper and zinc have a seesaw relationship. So if you're low in zinc, you're generally high in copper (my situation, I'm extremely low in zinc). The contraceptive pill can raise copper levels in your body. And copper makes your brain crazy. Sooo if you happen to be on the pill and jumping on board the kale bandwagon and sometimes feel a bit crazy, maybe just stop and have a little think about what's going on with your body on a more chemical/ cellular level.

Anyway, here are the green smoothies I made for my Mum and myself this morning. Such an easy way to jam pack some good stuff in your belly for the day. Don't be put off by the colour, they taste SOO much better than they look.

Mum's on the left: (she likes hers more watery and fruity)
  • Spinach (roughly 2 handfuls)
  • Water
  • Ice
  • 1 banana
  • 6 strawberries
  • Chia seeds
  • Psyllium husk
Mine on the right: (I like mine creamy and more vegetable-y)
  • Spinach (roughly 2 handfuls)
  • Water
  • Ice
  • 1/4 or 1/2 avocado (the creamy factor)
  • 1 banana
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • Chia seeds
  • Psyllium husk

Be light on the chia seeds and psyllium husk…… because…
